Very few teacher preparation programs provide specific training in the areas of student discipline and almost no training on teacher safety. Some classes in most programs teach strategies for classroom management. However, these only begin to prepare students of education for the challenges they will face in classrooms as new teachers. This is particularly true in inner city schools in large metropolitan areas.
